As some of you know, I'm working on a new version of the OldSchoolHipHop.Com message board.
I thought I'd use this thread to keep everyone updated on the progress.
I've brought over about 350 of the users from this board with original join dates and updated number of posts (as of 11/3/07).
No posts will be converted over, so basically we'll be starting from scratch. This board will remain online for the time being, but I'll be restricting it to old topics only.
I'm also going to be adding at least 1 if not 2 moderators to help me keep things in line.
Here are a few other features:
-Friend/Foe listing to block messages by people you don't want to hear from.
-New user control panel to manage subscriptions, add bookmarks to topics
-One click "Report Post" button that will report any offending post to the moderators to review.
-Warning system for abusers that can lead to temporary and permanent bans for policy violations.
-An excellent moderation control panel that will make handling issues much easier for me and the mods.
I'm sure there are a few more and I'll add them as I come across them.
My time line for this is to have everyone using the new board by December 1st at the latest, but we'll have to see.

As I mentioned above, this board won't be going away, it just won't be active. ForumCo owns the board and will not give me access to move the database over. This board will remain until they decide to delete it.

Thanks that those of you that have ventured over to the new board and tried things out. I hope several more will continue over the next week.
Here's the tentative plan...
I'm looking to have most of the kinks worked out of this board by Dec 1. After that, I'll suspend new registrations from this board and remove the link from the main site and point it to the new board.
Once that is completed, I'll post an announcement here saying no new threads should be started and any that are will be deleted. Posts already in discussion will stay open.
I don't foresee this going away until around the first of the year and even then, I'll only suspend new posts, but the old info will remain here for viewing.

11/19 - I think I've got the password issues straightened out. If you attempted to get a new password last night and had trouble logging in, give it another shot. If you're still having issues, drop me a line here.

I think I'm ready for some live posting. Be aware that there are still some changes underway, but if you see anything that doesn't look right definitely let me know. I'm trying to get through as many pages as I can, but I'm sure I'll miss a few odd colors here and there.

If you see your name listed, you'll need to use the "I forgot my password" option to have your new password sent to you (using whatever email address you have listed on this board). If you want to start a new account that is fine as well.

11/4 to 11/6 - Manually moved user data from current board to new database
11/7 - Installed new board program (phpbb3) on my server and imported 350 frequent and recent users from the current board.
I'll post the address next week and I'll be looking for some beta testers to check things out as I continue updating the look of the board. |
