I am from Manhattan but I used to hang out in Hollis and Jamacia Queens with my cousin so I am familiar with that terminal as well as some of the clubs you've mentioned on this board Finesse

If they did it like they used to, I would still prefer the old school. L.E.S. for life

Watch out because the Female Pioneers are going to shake things up and set it off so prepare yourselves for the ride. 06/08

Finesse, Your right on time, In regards to your comments about the Terminal(165st/LOL), My man/LOL, MarkSkillz, I used to take the Q17 to Francis Lewis Highschool for a few, During the mid to late 70's(Along with taking the Q17a or the Q31 right on the side of Mays on 169thst and Jamaica ave, Both went out to Flushing via Utopia Parkway),

Finesse, The terminal was not far from the Bristol(Bristol Hotel that is/LOL), Which was on 162ndst, Off of Parsons Blvd(If memory serves me correctly/LOL), Finesse, The donut shop in the Terminal was the joint back in the 70's too my man(Along with a spot that used to sell

Gavadin's(Swedish Knit Pants/LOL),Pletes(Knit pants),Alpacka's(Knit Sweaters),Playboys,Etc, My man Clarence from around the southside, Had a spot in the 165st mall(Clothing store), Clarence used to run with Corly,Kilo,Prince,Supreme,Etc, Back in the 80's(Clarence was also featured in the video clip at Encore in 1985, During Prince's birthday throwdown with Mele Mel,Cowboy/Rip,Sweet F Preforming/LOL, Finesee, Do

You remember, 'The Rennasance', On Parsons blvd off of Hillside ave(Right across the street from Hillcrest Highschool),During the mid 70's to early 80's, Eli Turbo used to twar **** up at The Rennasance on the regular my man(Mad basketball cats used to get loose at the Rennasance, Like, Rich Marhorn,Larry McNeil(6'9 cat who used to play for Clinton HS In the Bronx, In the late 60's/early 70's, And,

Marquette University in the early to mid 70's),Lloyd Free(I never could call that cat World B.Free/LOL), Fly Williams from Brooklyn(Neve run, neve will Brownsville/LOL), Joe Hammond from Uptown/Harlem, Along with cats like Ronnie Bump from Hollis(Legendary drug kingpin from Hollis,Corly,Tommy Mickens,Lance and Tony Feratudo,Etc.

LOL....stick around Mike,I`m only getting started.
This was the place known in Queens as Encore. This is the first real club we had to see actual groups(refer back to the "Check This Out" post) both R&B and early mainstream Hip Hop acts. The Queens Public Library shared the block with Encore for years. As time went on Encore closed its doors, now the library has taken over that building and has expanded its self.

Only because Mike Barnes peeped my hand unknowingly....this is the place that LL Cool J immortalized in his song off the "Bigger And Deffer" album:"The Bristol Hotel".To settle the myth, the Bristol doesn`t nor ever had 5 floors so there is NO ROOM 515 !!!!
Notoriously known from the late 70`s straight thru the 80`s as the "Hoe Stroll".
Ironically the Bristol is now a woman`s shelter called "the Monica House".

Stick around y`all....the tours just getting started....LOL

Finesse, In regards to,'The Rennasance', On Hillside Ave and Parsons Blvd, I forgot to mention that Norma Jean Wright(Former Lead singer for Chic in the mid/late 70's), And, The other young lady from Chic(Who i cannot remember her name right about now/LOL), Used to hang at The Rennasance too, During the mid 70's to early 80's,(Cats will probably remember, Norma Jean Wright's plate, Called',High Society',

In 1980, Produced by Chic, As for Encore/LOL, Well, Encore opened it's doors in 1980/81, With, Ralph McDaniels mixing(Much Respect to Ralph McDaniels man, Mike Walker too), Finesse, The reason why i did not go to Encore that much, Was, The potential nonsense that could/Would start between the Southside vs Hollis(Or, Cats from 40 Projects vs anyone/LOL), When Encore first opened in 1980(Around the same time as

Bentley's in Manhattan), Encore was the spot mad hard, Ralph McDaniels used to mix at the Blue Ice on Springfield Blvd, Off of Hollis ave(Or was it Murdoch Blvd/LOL), Back in 1978, The Blue Ice,The Rennasance,Olympia Palace,The Armory,IS8,Shing,Shing Palace(Elmo The Magic Christian),The Fantasia,LeChelet,Etc, All used to rock mad hard back in the mid 70's to mid 80's),Celebrity cats like Eddie and Charlie Murphy,Russell Simmons,Andre Harrll,Michael Ray Richardson(Former New York Knicks cat from the late 70's to mid 80's),Ray

Williams(Former New York Knicks cats from the late 70's to mid 80's),Tracy Camilla John's(The Young lady who was in Movie, 'She's gotta have it', In 1986), Along with mad cats who used to move weight in Queens(Too many to mention/LOL), All hungout at Encore on the regular, Finesse, We both know, That Encore was just as nice as Bentley's my man(Especially the music, No Disrespect to Kevin Woodley, Former Dj at Bently's from 1981 to the early 90's, But, Ralph McDaniels played everything(Rock,Classic's,Commercial R&B,Rap,Jazz,Dance music,Etc,), While, Kevin Woodley had to play to a mad commercial crowd(That only wanted to hear rap and Commercial R&B music that BLS,Kiss FM,KTU, Were running during the day/LOL, Though, Kevin Woodley did educate his crowd at Bentley's musiically through the years(Especially around 1986, Because, Kevin Woodley was running Dance/House music mad hard at Bentley's during the mid to late 80's,

Finesse, Ralph McDaniels is a vastly unnderrated cat when it comes to Dj'ing on the Dance music circuit in New York during the 70's,80's, My man(On the low, Alot of cats like my man Van Silk, Did not know that Ralph McDaniels was a Dj), Alot of cats only knew of Ralph McDaniels through Video Music Box(With The Vid Kid/Lionel Martin from Cambria Heights,Queens), But, Ralph McDaniels, Has been on the dj circuit in New York since 1978(Ralph McDaniels aslo used to mix at spot in Brooklyn called,'Townhill Two(Which was located on Flatbush ave),

During the early 80's, Finesse, I knew a cat(Who shall remain nameless/LOL), Who used to have young ladies on the stroll at The Bristol Hotel during the early to mid 80's my man/LOL, My man used to play basketball for Bayside Highschool during the mid 70's(Spyder whould more than likely remember the brother too/LOL), Finesee, Do you remember a cat named MC Boo from Baisley my man(Dark skinned cat with an afro),MC Boo used to rock the mic at Baisley Projects(Sometimes

With Understanding from Cipher sounds mixing, Back in the late 70's),Finesse, My man FBI from 40 Projects used to butchkid(Make cats fess/LOL), Cats in Encore mad hard my man, FBI was an oldschool stickup kid/Gangsta to the ninth power with his(Ralph McDaniels mentioned during an interview with Troy from Uptown, That FBI used to step to Ralph McDaniels and Ralph's man Mike Walker, In regards to making them run,'Love is the message', More than a few times during the course of the the nite/LOL.

ROTFLMMFAO !!!!

Yeah,I remember seeing a few of the Knick players up in Encore on many occassions.
Kenneth McGriff(aka Supreme),David McClary,Pappy Mason and other neigborhood kats who moved weight around the Queens area also hung out there alot sponsering a few shows too.I remember M.C.Boo also....ain`t seen him in a minute tho.Ain`t seen too many kats from 40 in a minute either. We all know the story tho. They`re either real OG`s,still strung out,in jail or dead by now.Even the best of times seemed to be the worst of times looking back on them days.

Moving the tour along down a few blocks:the Jamaica Armory.
This building hosted some of the earliest Hip Hop shows. Many pioneers graced the stage here.GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five, the Cold Crush Brothers, the Funky Four Plus One,the Treacherous Three,Spoonie Gee,the Force MC`s and of course the hometown local favorites Infinity Machine,Chiper Sounds,Spyder D and a host of others....yours truly included.
Every year during the Christmas vaction the Armory hosted the "Brawl For It All" inter-city battle.Use to be crazy,EVERYBODY`S name who was somebody was on the flyers.Of course half the kats on the flyers never showed up(LOL)but those that did would rock this place HARD.That was until Infinty Machine pulled up,plugged in and literally blew away the others with their incredible sound system.

Finesse, I've only been to throwdowns at The Armory 3 times, During the late 70's my man/LOL, I used to build with cats outside of the Armory mad hard before going to another spot(Le'Chalet,Fantasia,The Blue Ice,The Rennasance,The Olympia Palace, Or In the Bronx(Stardust Ballroom on Boston Road and Fish ave)T-Connection on White Plains

Road,Club 371 on Webster ave,Etc,Manhattan(The Hotel Diplomat on 43rd and 7ave),The Superstar Disco on 34thst and 8thave),Kennedy Center on 135thst ave 5thave),Etc, Or the Brooklyn Armory on Atlantic ave and Nostrand ave)),Etc, Finesse, Those spots were just the hiphop spots that i would go to(Along with the Dance music spots in Manhattan like Pipin's,Leviticus,Pegusas,The Garage,Laffs,The Downunder,Etc, Finesse,

The times that i did work at The Armory, Was when Infinity and Cipher Sounds were throwing down around 1979/80 or so(Around the time,'Ring my Bell', By Anita Ward came out in 1979/LOL), Finesse, Whenever i was near the Armory, I was building with cats for a few, On my way to another spot back in the late 70's/early 80's my man/LOL, Finesse, I do remember a shootout at The Armory in the late 70's though/LOL,

Finesse, Do you remember the Blimpie's, Down the block from the Armory on Jamaica ave and 168thst my man/LOL, Finesse, Around the time, The Armory started to have hiphop throwdowns in the late 70's, I was more into the dance music scene my man(I just evolved musically, In regards to having a cat mix mad hard the whole night, Without an MC

rhyming/LOL), No disrespect to any MC's on the board though/LOL, But, I was more into the dance music scene, Opposed to the hiphop scene back in the late 70's(Though, I started out on the hiphop scene in 1974
With Hollywood/LOL),Finesse, One of my boys used to rest around

St.Alban's(Off of Farmers Blvd and close to the big rock that divides Farmers Blvd and Hollis ave/LOL), My man rested on the next block over from LL's(LL Cool J), Grandmother's rest on Illion Ave(My man was the older brother of MC King/Rip, Who was down with Ebony Sounds), Also,

Frank Lucas's younger brother named Larry Lucas, Used to rest 3 blocks from my man on Jordan ave in St.Albans too/LOL, In fact, My man's brother used to run with Larry Lucas for a few in the mid/late 70's/LOL, Finesse, i nver met your man LL though(I would sometimes see LL at different places around Queens though back in the 80's), Finesse, Do you remember the Night Fever on Hollis ave my man/LOL, On the low, Frankie Crocker/Rip, Used to sometimes hang at The Hotel Diplomat whenever Hollywood,Eddie Cheeba,Lovebug Starski,Reggie Wells,

Would rock my man(Frankie Crocker and Reggie Wells were crew), Finesse, Mad cats who played basketball used to hang at hiphop spots allover New York back in the 70's,80',s my man/LOL, Along with The many dance music spots around New York during the 70's/80's, Too/LOL.

Southeast Queens in full and total effect!!!!

Nice run, Finesse....sh*t, you even got Mike Barnes to come back strong!!!!

Lovin' this thread.

The Terminal was the scene of many episodes for me.....Eye cut off a couple of shortys up there....left one of them standing there in tears. Don't know why the terminal was that spot...but it just seem like Eye always ended up there, going thru some dumbness and then hopping on the bus and bouncing! My older sister used to get her Right On! magazines up there....suprised you didn't show the other side of the terminal...the 165th St Mall & The Colosseum.

The spot where Encore was is across the street from where JMJ got shot.

A chunk of my youth was spent around all these landmarks. Eye lived with Pop dukes and like the song says...he was a rolling stone, so as a result Eye rested in quite a few spots. Between like 76-79, Eye lived in two different spots on 89th ave...one across from The Bristol, and the other right around the corner from the library (before there was an Encore); on Hillside in the building next to York cabs; and on Liberty, right off Supthin over a hardware store....that spot is just a cement mixing place now...LOL...then we bounced to Hollis.

Pops also used work for the Southeast Queens Community Corporation (Manpower, CETA, etc)....right on Archer and 160th...in the building that eventually became home to 1212 studio (spot that Paul C. made legendary).

Also had the short-lived Jamaica Rollerdome on New York Blvd, plus for all the Reggae fans....VP Records is only a few blocks away from all these pictures.

Nice stuff, Finesse.

"Just throw ya hands in the air....and wave 'em like you just don't care.....keep 'em there....run the jewels."

Appreciate greatly that you guys and lady are enjoying the tour.

Yo Eye....LOL .
Like I said, the Terminal was Hip Hop Central. We ALL came together in the Terminal,165st.Mall,Hillside Ave,Jamaica Ave,169st train stop area.
I have some great memories of hanging out there.I knew Joey aka Run from around the way any how.Standing over by the Q2 stop one afternoon,he "premeired" "Sucker MC`s" same week he and D recorded it.
Back in the day when he was sportin them "porkchop" sideburns and the plaid jackets(remember that classic picture at the Fever....)
Had a beef one time with this kat from Flushing.I called him out.Homeboy stepped out the library.Unfortunately when he came outside he didn`t realize that I knew damn near every kat up in the terminal, from Hollis to 40 Projects. Its a good thing to know EVERYBODY.....
Got the opportuniy to hang out at the Armory with Devine and Infinity Machine back in 80.That was an awesome night for me personally.
Had only been in the game about a year and I had a chance to run with the Big Dwags in Queens.

Ahhhhhh.......those were the dayz

If we travel up Merrick Blvd. some we come across this building. What is now the Morningstar Missionary Church was once the hot spot of Queens. This is....I mean was the club Fantasia.
The home of D.J.Divine and the mighty Infinity Machine.Divine battled GrandMaster Flash there once.Rush Productions (yeah Russel Simmons) held a few jams here, including the "Patty Duke-A-Thon" and a "Spank-A-Thon" back in the days.Run did a few shows as Kurtis Blow`s D.J.
Most of the early pioneering crews including Cipher Sounds,Ebony Sounds,D.J. Hollywood and Eddie Cheeba played here.
Like most of the early shows back in the day,Fantasia had its share of shootouts, but the story that still brings a chuckle to eveyone who remembers is:Infinty Machine literally bringing down the roof to close the place down.
Divine and company were notoriously known for having the most powerful sound system in New York City. From 79-82,their system went from 5000 to 50,000 watts.
Infinity set up one night and rocked the house to the wee hours of the morning.Ironically the maiden flight of the SST(Concorde) was a few hours after the jam.Infinity started the structual damage on the building....the Concorde flying over head heading for Kennedy Airport, finished the job causing the roof to collapse.
Inifinity Machine was credited for closing down Fantasia.Luckily another club(Encore)was just opening theirs. This marked the ending of the Old School styled Park Jam/Block Party days.Encore was the first Manhatten styled club opened to the Queens public.

Finesse, Good lookin with the information on The Fantasia my man, Finesse, We can't forget Woody Wood/Rip, Rocking with Devine and Infinity at The Fantasia too my man/LOL, Woody Wood was The Disco Kid(From Infinity Machine's), Brother/LOL, Finesee, Do you remember the

Benson Burger's spot that was across the street from The Fantasia(Or The Carvels Ice cream spot too/LOL), Finesse, Stickup kids from the Southside(Mainly 40 Projects/LOL), Were on the prowl around The Fantasia mad hard back in the late 70's to early 80's(Mostly at the Q4 to 235sth in Cambria,Heights Bus stop on Linden Blvd/LOL),Finesse,

Phase III(From Lincoln Park on Linden Blvd, Close to The Van Wyck Expressway), And, King Charles(From Astoria,Queens), Used to rock at Fantasia too during the late 70's/Early 80's, Along with the Disco Twins from Queensbridge Projects, Finesse, Your right on time with

Your comments regarding The Fantasia's closing, Ending bringing an end to the throwdowns around the way(Even though IS8 used to rock hard Too, Going back to 1977/78, But, There was too much PAP,PAP,PAP, On a regular basis at IS8 to continue having throwdowns in the community my man(Finesse, I used to live across the street from IS8 during the mid 70's to early/mid 80's).

Thanx for the nod sPITfIrE and djllw
"Queens Reigns Supreme",recently heard about that book.I`m sure its a great read.DEFINATELY putting that on my "to read" list.
I don`t glamorize nor do I condone the drug world and its endless list of gangstas, drug lords, drug dealers, hustlas and wannabe`s.
I am wholeheartedly aware of the characters and their importance and impact on South Jamaica.Saw Fat Cat many times at spots like Fantasia,La Chalet,Ajax and 40 Park.To get a "free pass" to travel between SouthSide and Hollis ya had to know somebody....ain`t that right Mr.Barnes.....
Kats like him,Pappy Mason,Ronnie Bump,Supreme,Prince,Tommy "Tony Montana" Mickens and Corely were as much a part of the history of Queens as was the music.
When P.O.Eddie Byrnes was assassinated over on Inwood Ave Queens was on straight up LOCK DOWN,you damn near couldn`t make hand to hand contact with ANYBODY.Queens was definately affected by the drug trade also.

Finesse, Your most definitely right, In regards to knowing cats, Kept a cat from getting taken off(Robbed), OR stepped too, Finesse, We both know of the destruction of the community around the way in Queens, That cats like Corly(Who i've known since 3rd grade at PS 40 on Union Hall st. In Jamaica,Queens, Going back to the early/mid 60's),Supreme(Who i've known since 1975, From Francis Lewis Highschool in

Flushing,Queens on Utopia Parkway/LOL),Kilo(Who i've known since 3rd grade at PS 40 in Jamaica,Queens, Going back to the early/mid 60's),Fatcat(I've met Fatcat a few times in the mid 80's, But, Never Knew him, Though, I used to know cats that ran with Fatcat in the 80's),Tommy Mickens(Who i've known since the mid 80's, Through a cat who used to coach summer League crews around the way in Queens),Lance and Tony Feratudo(Who i've met more than a few times during the 70

crowns days in the early 70's around the southside),Ronnie Bump(I Never met Ronnie Bump, Though, I knew cats that ran with him in Hollis during the 70's),Etc, But, I do feel that it's important to build about everyone from around the way(Be it Legal or illegal cats), Who played a role in Queens getting put onstage like that, Finesse, I've

always felt that the hiphop and Dance music scenes were made up of cats from the basketball circuit,Movin weight circuit,Stickup kid circuit,Etc, In New York, Going back to the early 70's with cats like Grandmaster Flowers,Pete Dj Jones,Maboya,Plummer,Hollywood,Etc, Finesse, There's more than afew cats from around the way(Queens), On

The board like yourself,Eyegetzraw(What's going on my man),MarkSkillz(Very nice article on Sequence my man, As well as the Article on Eddie Cheeba),Spyder D,Etc, Who can build about who was making it happen in Queens going back to the 70's, But, Alot of cats were under the wrong impression of Queens, In regards to cats from other parts of the city

Going to area's like Forest Hills,Rego Park,Sunnyside,St.Albans(Certain area's of St.Albans that is/LOL),Laurelton,Cambria Heights,Springfield(No disrespect to those area's, But, All of Queens is not the same/LOL), So, When i used to here cats from Brooklyn,Uptown/Harlem,Bronx,Etc, Build about Queens(All of Queens that is/LOL), Being soft, I used to laugh at that mad hard/LOL,

Finesse, I once brought a few stickup kids from East New York(New Lots ave cats who were rightous with theirs', By Day, Cold stickup kids by night/LOL), Around the way(Too a Throwdown at 48 Park around the Southside), In the summer of 1977, Brooklyn cats could not believe that cats from Queens, Actually shot back(PAP,PAP,PAP), The stickup

kids from Brooklyn that i brought around the way used to play basketball at the BRC(Brownsville Recreation center off of Linden Blvd and Dumont Ave in Brownsville), And, Breevort Projects in Bed Stuy back in the mid to late 70's), Those cats from Brooklyn had a new

Found respect for cats from the southside(Cats had never been to the southside before, But, Were popping mad **** about All of Queens being soft like that/LOL), Finesse, It's pleasure to build with you and anyone else from Queens, Who truely knows the time, In regards to, Who was making it happen around the way my man(Legally or illegally/LOL).
Much Respect
