Kool moe dee once said busy bee was a name biter. It made me wonder: who is the best?
who do you prefer? I know it's hard but if you had to choose one.

lovebug starski or busy bee starski

and most important: why?

Busy Bee was basically a clone of Lovebug. The thing that made him fun to see was his personality.

IMO Lovebug's best days were at the Disco Fever. He was easily the best of all the house DJ's.

I'd agree that their djing skills were about equal (timing, creativity, etc.) but JuneBug didn't really come up with a lot to say on the mike like LoveBug. That was what I feel made him more fun to party to.

StarChild was cool too.

Busy Bee was really on point when he was with the L Brothers. He sounded like a totally different emcee than he did when he later went solo.

Busy Bee would tear Starski out the frame on the mic. of course the real Starski would tear Busy out the frame when it came to the 1's and 2's. Spoonie sold him the rhyme's but who would later be the best of the two? Spoonie or Busy. would the Treach still be the Treach if Spoonie choose to stay. the woulda coulda shoulda's. peace

Never thought of a battle between these two.
Two different styles.
Lovebug was more of a disco-ish type of kat.
Busy Bee was more hardcore.
Busy never appealed to me as a 'real' M.C.,more of a hype man who knew excatly how to motivate the crowd.
I take nothing away from Busy Bee at all.
He just seemed to run the same routines over and over and over and..........

KEEP IT TRUE...KEEP IT REAL...
Peace

I'm with Finesse, Lovebug was a disco cat...Busy was/is one helluva crowd rocker. Maybe he was the best on the hip hop side....I'd love to see Biz Mark, Doug Fresh and Busy on stage together, with Lovebug on the cut....
Troy your right the more tapes you hear of busy you find a jewel here and there. Yes he ran the same lines but sometimes the way he ran them were hotter than others...Like Busy Bee's 1st anniversary at Webster Ave PAL or the Treacherous 3's anniversary at Harlem World at the end Busy rhymin to Heartbeat...HOT TO DEATH

PEACE I WAS TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THIS ONE BUT I GOTTA ADD MY TWO CENTS. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAY LOVE BUG IS A DISCO YA WRONG. hE IS A DEFINATE PARTY ROCKER DJ WHICH MEANS HE WILL PLAY WHATEVER KEEPS THE PARTY GOING. lOVEBUG CAME UP THROUGH THE RANKS JUST BECAUSE HE CRACKED THE MIC DON'T MAKE YOU DISCO. HE IS WAT YOU CALL A DJ/MC HE IS BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO ROCK THE MIC WHILE KEEPING THE BEAT. ALL OF US NEED TO THANK LOVEBUG CAUSE WITH OUT HIM HIP-HOP COULD BE CALLED SOMETHING ELSE, AFRIKA BAMBAATAA NAMED THE CULTURE HIP-HOP BASED ON HIS RHYME. NOW BUSY IS THE BEST AT MOVING THE CROWD, CALL AND RESPONSE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.FOR THE BROTHER WHO SAID HE ONLY CONCIDER BUSY A CROWD MOTIVATOR THATS WHAT AN MC IS MIC CONTROLLER, MASTER OF CEREMONY, CROWD MOTIVATOR. BOTTOM LINE IS WITH BOTH OF THESE BROTHERS THE ROCK THE PARTY AND MAKE THE CROWD PART OF THEIR SHOW. THEY BOTH ILL CATS.

And to add to what YODA said, Busy's most famous rhymes came from all of the things Lovebug said from way back.

Busy Bee's claim to fame was his crowd motivitation and I have always felt that even the tapes didn't do him justice. You had to see him live with the base thumpin'.

I would have to say LoveBug was nicer when it comes to sparking a crowd up than BusyBee because Lovebug could rock any type crowd(Dance music commercial Bentley's type crowd), Or a Stickup kid type crowd(Brooklyn Armory,BRC/Brownsville Recreation Center,Hotel Diplomat,Etc), Not to say that Busybee could not rock both type crowds too, But, To me, Lovebug did it much better, The work that LoveBug Starksi used to do at spots like The Rennesance Ballroom Uptown on 137st,Stardust Ballroom on Fish Ave and Boston Road,Hotel Diplomat,Constellation,Etc, Was Legendary to me, Also, I remember Lovebug Starski Traveling around the city more than BusyBee back in the late 70's/early 80's, Which, Probably gave Lovebug a better feel
to rock any type crowd, Were as Busybee was more into rocking at spots and Parks Uptown(Harlem World Celebrity Club on 125th,Etc) and The Bronx(T-Connection,Hoe ave Boys Club,PAL on Webster Ave,Echo Park,Etc, Both LoveBug Starski and BusyBee are very good at sparking a crowd up to the highest degree.
Much Respect

NO DOUBT YODA!!!!!
BOTH the kats have madd skillz!!!!!!
Lovebug could rock the party on the mic AND one the 1 and 2`s.
Lovebug was just never a battle rapper. My opinion.
Busy did his thing mos def also!!!!
As you stated Lovebug was a little more rounded in musical choice.
Playing the Fever you know he had to put it down!!!!

KEEP IT TRUE...KEEP IT REAL...

Busy was nice, his strength was rocking the crowd and over the years he's really stepped his game up at the lyrical thing....When I said Lovebug was disco i didn't mean it as a diss, I like disco, I have tapes of him at the Fever and at the Celebrity Club and he did his thing on both sides of the game. I agree with Yoda he could rock anywhere and anyone it's just that as a MC he was best at the crowd motivation thing versus the lyrical thing; which Busy was better at. I like both of them!

The way Lovebug interacted with the crowd and mixed was some other level ****...cats like him influenced Kid Capri and others...Pete Jones told me how he mentored Lovebug and Lovebug himself told me how Thunderbird Johnny, who was his stepfather, taught him the basics.

Dutchman, you forgot

"Do the Right Thing" - Lovebug Starski

"Live at the Ampitheatre" (Wildstyle Soundtrack) - Busy B

"MC Battle" Busy B vs Lil Rodney C

"Do the Right Thing" by Lovebug Starski is one of my all time favorite Old SChool joints.

And "Live at the Ampitheatre" by Busy Bee is probably the illest live performance I have ever heard. Busy B truly knows how to rock a crowd!

From what I've heard, I'd have to go with Busy B. Neither one of those guys were strong lyricists, but Busy Bee (from what I've heard) is better at Moving the Crowd.

Lovebug Starski's LP from 86 was weak and I've never heard Busy Bee's LP, but both MCs were past their prime when their LPs came out, so its not fair to use those LPs as a unit of measurement.

for the vinyl dont sleep on SUICIDE by BUSY BEE a bonfide 1987 classic!!!! That was a raw comeback tune in the style of THE GODFATHER by SPOONIE GEE and MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT by LL COOL J.... these tracks all put the masters out there and showed that they could adapt and go length for length with the new school........

LOVE BUG missed out on this trend but his HOUSE ROCKER LP had it's moments like SAY WAHT YOU WANNA SAY & POSITIVE LIFE II....

peace.

I still havent heard the original POSITIVE LIFE

It's a definite must, that I get loose!

I heard, back in the day, a story about how Busy Bee got the Starski attached to his name. Something about the flyers promoting "Starski" (Love Bug) and him not showing and Busy Bee filling in for him or somethng. Does anyone know how that really went down?
